Mary Ellen Mitzi's Story
Most people will know me as a friend of Virginia (Ginny) Kay. I tended to be rather quiet unless around people that I knew well and felt comfortable with. I was also friends with Kelly Coleman and Mary Sweeney and after high school we saved for a year and went to Europe together with Kelly's Sister Sue Coleman. That was one of the best decisions of my life. It was an adventure that I will always remember.
I did not go to college after high school, but went into the work force in a secretarial type position. In 1972 I married John Whytock, who lived in the Orange County area. We had two children together an remained married for thirty years. Unfortunately, we divorced in 2004. Seems so silly after investing so much time in the relationship, but there it is. During that time I went to college and obtained an RN license, fortunately so, as I have been ...Expand for more
able to support myself comfortably in that position.
I specialized in psychiatric nursing and have been in that field ever since and am well suited to it.
I remarried Garrison Martt in 2013 and have a bit of an unconventional arrangement. Garrison has a home in Austin, TX where he lives every other month and comes to live with me every other month. Odd because I take care of my 93 y/o mother who lives out in Yucca Valley and is currently independent, for the most part. I will not leave this area as I want Mom to live the way she wishes for as long as is possible. Garrison understood this from the beginning...so things work out nicely. When Mom moves on to her great reward, I should be about ready for retirement and will likely begin doing more traveling. Until that time I am working full time and taking care of Mom and enjoying Garrison's visits.
